I am passionate about connecting people to stories.

I currently work as the Executive Editor for AVENUE Magazine, a monthly lifestyle magazine in New York City that focuses on Manhattan society and luxury lifestyle.

Previously, I was the associate editor at Dan's Papers, a weekly publication based on the East End of Long Island. I took on a number of project management roles, including overseeing all content creation for the newly launched Dan’s Papers Montauk Section, as well as all promotional editorial content for the three Dan’s Papers summer food and wine events.

I enjoy the challenge of developing and editing stories and crafting catchy, effective headlines. I’m passionate about health, fitness, sports and lifestyle topics, organizations and campaigns.

My writing has won numerous awards. I received a 2015 Fair Media Council Folio Award for my piece on fashion icon Donna Karan and her Urban Zen Integrative Therapy program. In addition, I was named Sports Writer of the Year by the New York Press Association in 2012.

I recently completed my M.S. in strategic communication from Columbia University, where I learned how to most effectively adapt my communication skills to the ever-changing business environment. I graduated Wake Forest University with a B.A. in political science and journalism in 2010.

Raised on the East End of Long Island, I enjoy keeping active. I most recently completed an 18-mile stand up paddleboarding adventure from Montauk Point, NY to Block Island, RI to raise money for local nonprofits.

Previously, I was a Web Producer at Fox Sports Florida, where I edited and posted stories on FoxSportsFlorida.com and developed an acute passion for all things sports.

I’m interested in freelance writing, making new connections and exploring new opportunities in communications. Contact me at kmlaffey@gmail.com.
